South Africa has the most spectacular tradition of beadwork, which continues to be an innovative feature of contemporary culture. Neliswa worked as part of the qalo studio for three years where exquisite artworks using glass “seed” beads are produced. Her works has been exhibited at the Gallery Hall, Villa Arcadia, The Deisgn Indaba and abroad. Neliswa travelled to Australia to present a course in traditional beadwork in Melbourne where her work was exhibited.

With attention to quality and detail, Neliswa uses traditional knowledge of beads, combined skilfully with the Eurocentric traditional of art making to tell her personal story and about life back home. Her designs are bold, making use of the inherent qualities of beads; with particular sensitivity to their shine and colour.
